The Truth About Guys

'Men are horrible beasts' I hear them say. In light of recent events I felt it was time to write some nice stuff about us because it might just be about the only positive media that will receive over the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure you are all aware of Andy Gray's recent dismissal after his sexist outbursts were flooded over the internet and, for those of you that read Monday's post, you'll be aware that I myself have seen first hand why we often get bad press. I'm not here to name names (although the people that were present already know what I'm talking about) and I'm certainly not going to focus on negative things about guys because there has been enough of that recently. No I'm here to give a positive view on what otherwise is currently viewed as misogynistic, tight-assed sex (yes I'm aware that I just wrote those three words together and for that I can only apologise; it makes perfectly clean sense though).

To be fair, I'm no expert on the views of woman or what they think so I'm going to try and give that as wide a berth as I possibly can - for a guy that hasn't had much female interest as of late, I feel rather under qualified in that respect. But if there is one thing I do know then it is how the wonderful mind of a male works - after all, two heads are better than one (I'll quit the filthy innuendo now, I promise). If anything I spend far too much time thinking and not quite enough time doing something about it which is a good thing when it comes to blogging on this topic. Sadly my outlook on life is that pretty much everything can be analysed which is probably why I spend more time at a desk than I do in bed (and I'm not talking about sleeping because damn am I good at that!). This post is quickly turning into the sad tale of my love life so I'll swiftly move on.

As far as I know I've never insulted a woman before. I strive to treat them with as much respect as they deserve (on a case by case basis of course) and feel that I manage pretty well. My feelings on the matter are that I should treat woman the same way as I treat guys - minus the toilet humor of course (and even then there are some cases where that is acceptable). I guess what I am trying to say that we are all the same (yes I am aware of the physical differences!) and so we should all be treated the same. The only think that would really change that ideology is if the person was a complete muppet - which still applies to both guys and girls. The paradox for me is that, although I strive to treat everyone the same and speak to everyone on the same level, I get all hot under the collar when I talk to girls sometimes - that I'll never find a cure for I don't think!

As I said before, I'm not here to name names or point fingers at people. I'm not even going to tell you what happened at the weekend that got me wound up but lets just say that a fellow male let the side down and I don't like slackers. To use a football metaphor: it was as if he scored multiple own goals, celebrated them all and then got sent off for jumping into the crowd - yes it was that crappy. I've played many games of football (and sat on the bench for even more) and I know that if one person isn't pulling their weight then the whole team might as well head back to the changing rooms. My last words on the matter are: get a grip lads.

Thanks for reading and hopefully learning something positive about the male human species. Speaking for myself, I think I manage the role pretty well but others (including my favourite football commentator) really need to get down from their white stallions and get in line with everyone else.

Cheers,

Martin
