Frustrations, Snooker and Sleep Deprivation - Another Story of a Week

What a week. No blog posts, a lack of sleep and some great fun in between and now it's Friday and I think it's time to sit down and take stock. I'm not sure how long this post is going to be because I'm actually not sure where the week went but I'll give you a blow by blow account of it and see if it looks anywhere near normal to you. Keeping in mind that my 'normal' week just involves going to class, preparing tutorials, reading and going to pub quizzes I think you'll be able to see why I'm having to post on a Friday night for the first time in a long time. Get comfy...

Monday

Monday was probably the most normal day of a busy week. I went to classes after doing some uni work in the morning before heading out in the evening for a few drinks (and pool) with mates. 'Nothing different there!' I hear you say but this was the day when it was confirmed that I will be representing the university at the sports championships next week - not every week that happens. I'm going more or less by default (and the fact I've got a great friend) but that doesn't make me any less excited about the weekend away next week. One of my trepidations when I was deciding whether to go or not was that I'm going to miss classes. People that know me well and have studied alongside me for a while will know that I don't do this - I've got a proud record of attending every lecture (minus the 20 minutes that I lost last week after a night out) since I started uni. I thought to myself last week though 'what does that really matter?' and so I swallowed my pride and now I'm off to Sheffield next week. I'm looking forward to some some great snooker (it's a sport, I promise!) and some even better laughs which I'm sure will be the case.

Tuesday

So after the relative normality of Monday I stepped into 'day 2' knowing that it wasn't going to be just any old Tuesday. I went to classes as usual (a running theme throughout the week) before heading home (yes home) to go to the football with my Dad. The game and the weather were equally awful but it was nice to be home anyway. The thing that was different about Tuesday was that, instead of coming back to Edinburgh, I stayed at home and, for someone that hasn't lived at home during the week and when everyone else is working for a couple of years, it was a bit of a culture shock. I found myself in bed by 10 and that is about as weird as it needs to be!

Wednesday

Getting up early sucks. Getting the train in the morning isn't much better but I think I'll get used to it next year. I was up at the crack of dawn to get my unhelpfully timetabled train for a 9 o'clock start. I actually felt better than I usually do but I had been up for a few hours by the time my lecture finished. Throughout the day though I slowly started to slow down and an espresso was needed to push me through. The fact that I was out on Wednesday night for the annual Law Ball didn't help but I found some energy from somewhere and had a great night out. Now, the eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that I wrote on the Facebook page when I got home that night talking about 'frustrations'. I've decided to write a couple of posts tonight to make up for this week so that will be dealt with later. All that needs to be said just now is that I need to get a grip.

Thursday

We didn't get in until about 4am and I wasn't asleep until 4.30am - that's more like it for those student stereotype purists amongst you. This, however, meant that the next morning took a little while to get in to. With the night before still ringing in my ears and the aforementioned wound of frustration re-opened, I started to take a bit of a dip. Actually I might even say that I spent a large chunk of yesterday being utterly miserable - also to be explained later. This was rectified in the evening though by a 4 hour snooker session with my team-mates. We played some nice stuff at time and there was much hilarity - all bodes well for next week. We also frequented McDonalds at 11.30pm where I was chatted up by a small drunk woman who called me 'babes' - can't say I was tempted.

Friday

And so we get to today and you're probably all bored now. I'm shattered, I've not exercised since the weekend and I've got 2 essays to do in the next couple of days. It's been a great week in many respects (if not tiring) and a bad week in others. I'm currently running on empty at the moment so I'm going to keep my energy for this other blog post later on and enjoy some Eastenders for the moment. The fact that I've got a whole week to catch up on means that something was definitely different about this week - 2 hours of soaps tonight! I also realised that, with this week going so quickly, I'm another 5 days closer to being 20 and another 5 days closer to the end of this blog. I've not decided what I'm doing about that yet but you'll be the first to know when I do.

Thanks for reading and sorry for the probably boring post - see you later if you can stomach any more! (WARNING: I'm going to moan about girls again!)

  2. Although you can't go back to any songs, you can skip songs, mark them as ones you like or dislike, and browse the names, bands, and CD the song is on of all the songs that have played already. While the effects of antenna polarization may be interpreted as a reduction in the quality of some radio links, some radio designers often make use of this property to tune an antenna to their needs by restricting transmission or reception to signals on a limited number of vectors. This not only allows listeners to listen to their favorite MP3 files along with their SIRIUS radio; it also lets them digitally record their favorite radio songs for instant playback.
